KENYA TO HOST 2009 MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS (MAMAs)
mtv.jpg
MTV Networks Africa and telecommunications company Zain today revealed that Kenya has been picked to host the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA). The annual celebration of the African continent’s contemporary music and youth culture will take place on Saturday 10 October 2009 at the Indoor Arena, Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi, airing to a potential TV audience of 1 billion viewers around the world.

Leading mobile telecommunications operator, Zain, returns as the sole pan-African sponsor of the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards following their multi-platform, multi-territory partnership with MTV in 2008.

“The MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain is a global platform that highlights the passion, impact and creativity of Africa’s best contemporary artists,” commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa. “As a vibrant and influential cultural hub, the city of Nairobi will form a brilliant backdrop to the MAMA Awards and ensure that the second edition of the Awards will be a truly unforgettable experience.”

More than 5,000 fans will watch the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain live at the Indoor Arena, while millions more will watch the global TV broadcast of the show.

“Nairobi is proud to be hosting this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain,” commented the Honourable Najib Balala, MP, Minister of Tourism, “MTV’s choice of Nairobi is a huge boost for the city, and we are looking forward to welcoming the continent’s biggest stars here in October for this milestone event.”

Speaking about the Awards, Mwambu Wanendeya, Zain Group Communications Director for Africa said, “The 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain promises to be the highest profile music event in the history of the East African region. Zain is proud to play our part in bringing this inspirational salute to African music excellence to music fans in Africa and around the world.”

The MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain is Africa’s most prestigious live music event. Inaugurated in Abuja, Nigeria in November 2008, the first MAMA broadcast to music fans around the world via MTV’s global TV network and featured electrifying performances by artists including Kelly Rowland, Flo Rida, The Game, Jua Cali, P Square, 9ice, D’Banj, Asa, Cassette and Jozi. Among the artists taking home the distinctive ‘golden microphone’ trophy were Wahu (Best Female), D’Banj (Best Male), Jozi (Best Live) and P Square (Best Group).

The MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain will air across Africa on the 17 October 2009 on satellite on DStv (Channel 322) and Daarsat, and on terrestrial channels WBS (Uganda), TBC (Tanzania), TV3 (Ghana), STV (Nigeria), AIT (Nigeria).

DR. JOSE CHAMELEON
JOSE CHAMELEON TROUBLES HAVE JUST BEGUN
chameleone.jpg
Jose Chameleone’s troubles are far from over ! Fresh fears for the crocked Ba Yuda star were again raised after medical experts warned him against wearing closed shoes. This is the reason why the dad of three has of late been stepping out in sandals.

Our source said, Ever since his performance at the Ba Yuda concert in January, his limbs have been weakening. He was warned against putting up a powerful performance but he defied docs and jumped up and down for over two hours at the concert.

He is now feeling the pressure, pain and the fact that he could never fully heal.

During the Ba Yuda Concert at Hotel Africana early this year, Chameleone’s medical doctor sent Daniela (singer’s wife) a text message telling her that it was sad she would have to raise the star’s kids, Alfa and Abba alone.

The message read, I’m really sorry your husband won’t live to see his beautiful kids grow.

The Doctors Says He never listens, Chameleone ! The star then declared himself a doctor, He told his fans that no one knew him better than himself. He said: “I want to tell you this people.

I have always said that I am a heavyweight, that’s no more, I am now a doctor, a medical superintendent. I am Dr. Jose Chameleone, and for the next two hours, he was jumping up and down like a possessed devil

HASHEEM ALL THE WAY TO NBA
HASHEEM THABEET FROM DAR TO NBA!!!

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior men’s basketball player Hasheem Thabeet (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) has chosen to give up his final season of eligibility and enter his name into the 2009 NBA Draft, it was announced Tuesday.

“After spending time with my family and friends and speaking with Coach Calhoun, I have decided to give up my final year at UConn and enter my name in the 2009 NBA Draft,” said Thabeet. “I have had a great experience at Connecticut and cannot thank my coaches and teammates enough. I look forward to the challenge of playing professionally and know that my time here at UConn has prepared me to be successful in the future. I also want to thank all of the fans in Husky Nation that have followed my career, especially those from my homeland of Tanzania, and hope they will all be as supportive of me at the professional level as they have been to this point.”“Hasheem is more than ready to make the move to the next level,” said head coach Jim Calhoun. “He has been one of the most dominant defensive players in the history of college basketball and I am certain that where ever he ends up in the NBA, he is ready to be equally successful. He is a special player and even more special as a person. He will truly be remembered as one of the great players in UConn history, not only for his accomplishments, but also because of the type of person he is.”

Thabeet was named First Team All-American in 2008-09 by the NABC and the John R. Wooden Award. He was the NABC National Defensive Player of the Year and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons and was the 2008-09 BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year. He averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots per game (No. 2 nationally) in 2008-09 and helped lead the Huskies the 2009 NCAA Final Four and a 31-5 final record.Thabeet is the 11th player at UConn to declare early for the NBA Draft and nine of the previous ten were drafted in the first round. Eight of the ten were taken in the lottery portion of the first round

I’m not surprised at this. Thabeet is definitely a lottery pick and could be one of the top three picks. I’d expect Blake Griffin from Oklahoma to go No. 1 overall.
It could now be a long season for the Huskies as they will now need to replace Thabeet as well as A.J. Price, Craig Austrie and Jeff Adrien. Kemba Walker should fill-in nicely at the point and will need Stanley Robinson to play consistently like he did throughout the NCAA Tournament - soxanddawgs.com/2009-04-14 Thabeet is heading to the NBA.
